Starting on 1st May 2022 scarecrows started to appear in the village school grounds and around the village in gardens as we launched our third free to enter ‘Messingham Show Build a Scarecrow’ competition sponsored by Parkway Cinemas.

We’re received entries from individual families, local groups and clubs for this fun competition to build the best scarecrow.

Entrants were told that whatever skills and materials they have to hand will be eligible so long as the end result fulfils the basic criteria of a scarecrow, one that would scare off birds from raiding the crops around Messingham!

The theme in 2022 was, of course, HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee so all scarecrows contained red white and blue and references to HM the Queen.

Entrants submitted photos of their scarecrow and these were displayed in the Event Marquee at Messingham Show on Sunday 5th June 2022. Judging was undertaken by the Mayor of North Lincolnshire with the winners announced at 3;15pm after the toast to HM Queen.

The winners were invited to nominate a charity of their choice to donate their winning amount. 1st - £75, 2nd £50 and 3rd £25.

The top six also received a rosette to keep.
